Kosher marshmallows at Trader Joe's

I finally had a chance to go over to TJs this week and picked up a couple of bags. I have to say, I was unimpressed with them. They are very dense and sugar-y, not more traditional puffy marshmallows. I admit that the most recent bag of kosher marshmallows I bought prior to this had the right puffiness, but practically no taste whatsoever, but I'm not sure these are much better. If you are a vegetarian and want to avoid the gelatin, then they obviously provide an alternative, but I'd only give them a 7 out of 10. My favorite marshmallows are Granny's brand toasted coconut ones, but they are only sold around Pesach.

Lifesavers--are any varieties kosher?

Life used to be easier in many ways. Ingredients were often simpler and manufacturing was local and more limited. When sugar prices started to get exorbitant due to the "reforms" of 1981 it served to either drive candy manufacturing across the border to Mexico or companies that remained reformulated to take advantage of lower-priced HFCS. Supply chains got more involved and ingredients were sourced from a broader range of suppliers making it more complicated to ensure that each was properly certified. It just got more complicated to get Kosher certification. It's still doable, but the market for Kosher isn't necessarily big enough to motivate some of the bigger companies.

Are you referring to Granny's? The bag I (still) have has the OU; I guess it shouldn't surprise me that there are those who don't accept the OU, but I can't imagine it's a large number. Or are you talking about the Trader Joe's brand with the Chicago CRC?

Attention, Monsey! New takeout vendor at Wesley Kosher...from Queens

Just had the most divine homemade matbucha (no preservatives) and Moroccan carrots from the new takeout guys at Wesley Kosher. Two Sephardic Israeli guys from Aron's Kissena farms in Queens. The takeout counter is looking better. New dishes both Israeli and American (delicious shwarma and different kinds of chicken fingers, marinated salmon, buffalo wings...). And a growing selection of these yummy homemade dips and salads. I hope they do well. I have been frustrated with the takeout at this place in the past. Now if MOnsey could only get a decent bakery like the one in Seasons...

I believe it's at all the stores, but I've seen them at my local trader Joe's. I'm on long Island, so don't know if that helps. Good luck. There's also an artisanal bread company, I believe in Brooklyn, they might have it. Or try Bread berry, they sell everything.

Breadsmith in Brooklyn makes a large variety of breads, the menu just says "rolls" so it's worth a call to see if they make what you need http://www.breadsmith.com/brooklyn/

Raphaels was amazing just a few months ago, but it is among the casualties of the situation. Double check before counting on kosher places to still be open.
