Handicap access

Places of public accommodation are required to have a certain amount of handicap parking spaces in their parking lot. The synagogue hosting the event was built before the laws were formulated and is grandfathered (not required to meet current code). You can be sure that the limited handicap parking was full long before the event opened to the public. That's why there was a drop off system for handicap passengers with the drivers then parking in the remote lots and taking the shuttle bus. A call in advance to the organizers could have requested 2 workable solutions: #1 a reserved handicapped space-unlikely #2 a volunteer willing to drive your car to the remote lot, after you and your husband got out at the drop off point, bring you back your keys after parking, and then retrieve it later. This was the first year for this event and the turnout was much higher than expected. I expect that the committee will learn from these problems. I have forwarded a copy of your post to the committee to consider in planning next year's event. I worked on the Trumbull Day Committee this year and my 17 Year old is volunteering at the Trumbull Arts Festival this coming Sunday. At both events volunteers will shuttle cars for those holding Handicap placards if the spaces are full.
