That is a funny dichotomy, now that you've pointed it out. Although it bears mentioning that Mendy's has a side room that can be used for parties but is also open to the public and is a lot more orderly and pleasant for a family looking to sit and eat after a visit to the museum.
The cafe (called Chocolatte, but don't make me pronounce it), is actually open 24 hours a day, which is in my experience pretty rare for a kosher establishment. The food is not bad, and the coffee drinks are great! Good to know if you ever find yourself in Crown Heights in the wee hours of the morning.
