Dairy birthday cake (Brooklyn)

QC--we celebrate our English birthdays in our family, but my niece and nephew went to a day school in Massachusetts where the school policy was to celebrate Hebrew Birthdays (only). Both kids were born on Rosh HaShanah (three years apart, the eldest on Day 2, the younger on Day 1) neither one ever had a birthday celebration/cake in school. I mentioned earlier that I never did, because my birthday took place during February vacation. I had discussed this with my girls when they were younger as they felt cheated. The older daughter was June 25, after school was out and the younger in February, also during vacation. Five years ago I was doing a graduate degree in Massachusetts and I was in school on my birthday. I was in a 9am lecture on immigration law, when the doors opened and a caterer wheeled in a Happy 55th birthday sheet cake and coffee urns for the class. My daughters had decided I shouldn't be deprived of this experience my whole life and made the arrangements long distance. I made sure when I drove home that night (175 miles) that they got the birthday presents---great kids.
