Jerusalem Restaurant – Cozumel Mexico
This restaurant is a gem and a delightful oasis for kosher visitor to Cozumel Mexico. The Israeli and Mexican food is both fresh and authentic (minus dairy products). It is under Chabad hashgacha. The challa, laffa (which also serve as flour tortillas), and corn tortillas are fresh. Complimentary warm pita is served with a delightful chimichuri sauce but be careful to save room. The modern, attractive, comfortable white table cloth service is friendly and attentive with a beautiful daytime view of the shoreline, boats, ships and the ten mile distant Yucatan Peninsula.
Located on the second floor of a small shopping mall called “Forum Shops” it is open for breakfast and until 10PM most nights (4PM on Friday) but finding it can be a challenge after dark. When the mall is closed, access is limited to a single door on 10th Street “Calle 10” just off the shore front shopping street “Avienda General Rafael E. Melgar and up two flights of stairs.
Menu items include tacos, burritos, fajitas, shwarma, kabobs, salads, breakfast, and much more. Food presentation is superior, deliberate and artistic. With full meals in the $7.50 to $15.00 range the bill will appear in pesos and dollars with a total so low you will need to read it twice to be sure it is real and they did not miss something. A full dinner for 4 was $38.00 USD. Can we get a local branch?
They will even cater your Shabbos and deliver to most hotels or condos for very little more.
NOTICE TO KOSHER TRAVELERS to Cozumel. The mindless Mexican authorities will confiscate and destroy all of your sealed packaged kosher cheese (Daf gain meshuga) for no logical reason at the airport. There must be no hunger or poverty there that they can be so wantonly wasteful and reprehensively irrational. Expect them to fail or at least pretend to be incapable of fluent English or explain their determined stupidity except to show a photocopy of acceptable markings from the USDA which does not regulate cheese and so cannot possibly be present on the package. If you have a membership to Sam’s Club you can find a kosher Israeli cheese there.
